State, national and international media frequently feature the University of Wyoming
and members of its community in stories. Here is a summary of some of the recent coverage:
Scott Beaulier, the H.A. “Dave” True Jr. Family Dean of UW’s College of Business,
is quoted in a Washington Times article about Vanderbilt University’s recent “State of Scholarship” report, which
found that social justice politics, rather than knowledge, drives much of today’s
humanities scholarship. Beaulier says the report calls on campuses to resist the political
groupthink that repels career-conscious applicants.
UW College of Law Professor George Mocsary is quoted in Cowboy State Daily and The Reload articles about the potential for the U.S. Supreme Court to overturn “assault weapon”
bans in Connecticut and the Chicago area. He says the case could hinge on arguments
over the principle of sweeping gun bans.
Mocsary also is quoted in a Daily Caller article about how the flashpoint of the American Revolutionary War was when British
forces marched to seize the colonists’ arms. The April 1775 arms seizures were not
the whole cause of independence, but they were a decisive step that convinced Americans
that reconciliation with Britain was no longer realistic, Mocsary says.
A recent paper by UW economist Matt Burgess and Ph.D. student Finbar Curtis concerning
the challenges of estimating economic damages from climate change continues to receive
international attention. Their work is noted in a Foreign Policy article.
The Cody Enterprise, the Powell Tribune and the Riverton Ranger published UW’s release about a new cooperating agency agreement between UW and the
Heart Mountain Foundation.
The Laramie Boomerang published UW’s release about this week’s UW IMPACT 307 graduation event. Three startup
companies will be leaving the business incubator.
High Plains Journal picked up UW’s release about the launch of WyldFire, a new public-facing wildfire
information platform designed to help Wyoming residents, landowners, public land managers,
emergency services, utilities, and communities better understand wildfire risk across
the state.
UW Professor Emeritus Virginia Vincenti was featured in a WalletHub article about what a budget is.
A young bull moose’s visit to the UW campus received attention from Oil City News and County 10.
