Discover Magazine, Popular Archaeology, earth.com and Sci News were among the media outlets that covered new research by UW archaeologists Todd
Surovell and Robert Kelly and others showing that early humans in North and South
America relied heavily on hunting of large mammals, including mammoths and giant ground
sloths, for food and sustenance.
In a Marketplace piece about wild horses on public lands, UW economist Rob Godby notes that the animals
compete with cattle grazing on federal leases -- and that taxpayers are footing the
bill to round up the horses in a continuing cycle.
The incoming executive director of UW’s School of Energy Resources, Pete Obermueller,

UW economist Matt Burgess continues to receive attention in articles about Democrats
“hushing” on the issue of climate change. In a Boston Review article, he says climate change as an issue overall helps Democrats and hurts Republicans.
An analysis co-written by UW law Professor George Mocsary about a U.S. Department
of Justice investigation into the city of Philadelphia’s gun licensing practices has
received significant media attention, including from The Daily Record, seattlepi.com, the Herald-Palladium and the Rochester Sentinel.
Dr. Beth Robitaille and Gabriela Alvarado, of UW’s College of Health Sciences, were
the primary sources for an Oil City News article about the state of healthcare in Wyoming heading into the 2026 elections.
In a Cowboy State Daily article about how technology might change Wyoming’s agriculture industry, Yaqoob
Majeed, an assistant professor in UW’s Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer
Science, says robotics could help fill labor shortages, reduce repetitive work and
allow producers to manage larger operations more efficiently.
The Sheridan Press and WyoToday Media published UW’s release about the recent Play Institute hosted by UW’s Center for
Early Learning in the College of Education. It attracted about 180 early childhood
educators from across the state.
The Douglas Budget and other outlets highlighted the work of UW graduate student Melissa Moreno, who
is studying bats around the state.

UW history Associate Professor Jeffrey Means is quoted in a Cowboy State Daily article about Red Cloud, a great leader of the Oglala Lakota.
The University of Wyoming has earned its Research Level 1 (R1) status from the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education, placing Wyoming's only four-year university with the top research universities in the United States.
