The Casper Star-Tribune, The Riverton Ranger, Wyo Today Media and K2 Radio were among the outlets noting UW ranking No. 41 in SmartAsset’s “America’s Best Value Public Universities” list.

UW Professor Thomas Boothby, one of the world’s experts on the survivability of the microscope organism tardigrades, is quoted in a Chemistry World article about the amazing creatures -- and what they might mean for the search for life beyond Earth.

In an American Banker article about a pledge from the Federal Reserve, the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency and the FDIC to give banks notice within 72 hours of a compromise of their confidential supervisory information, UW College of Law Dean Julie Hill says banks will not be able to sue to enforce the document: The pledge’s only real force is the trust the agencies build by honoring it.

UW law Professor Jason Robison is quoted in a Colorado Newsline article about the impact of low Colorado River Basin water levels on power generation. A “compact call” to the Lower Basin states demanding delivery of more water from Colorado, New Mexico, Utah and Wyoming has never happened in the Colorado River Compact’s history, but it could increase pressure on Western Slope water and power as Front Range cities lease senior water rights across the Continental Divide, Robison says.

Retired UW Professor Jim King is quoted in a WyoFile article about how record-breaking sums of personal money are being invested in the crowded Republican race for Wyoming’s U.S. House seat. Where their money is coming from is not a particularly meaningful distinguishing factor in campaigns, King says.

In a Cowboy State Daily article about artificial intelligence software that uses surveillance cameras to search for guns, UW law Professor George Mocsary says the technology has potential to do good, but only within narrow parameters that protect gun owners’ rights.

Research by Aly Courtemanch, Wyoming Game and Fish Department wildlife biologist for the Jackson region, provides the foundation for the agency’s objection to a federally approved expansion of the Grand Targhee ski resort on the west side of the Tetons, according to WyoFile. While a UW master’s student, Courtemanch found that out-of-bounds skiing in the Tetons is directly displacing bighorn sheep.

UW psychology professor Joshua Clapp is quoted in a Cowboy State Daily article about hoarders. Embarrassment is one of the cruelest burdens hoarders deal with, Clapp says.

UW’s King Air research aircraft is being used to study low-elevation ozone in the Salt Lake valley, according to a Deseret News article.
