State, national and international media frequently feature the University of Wyoming
and members of its community in stories. Here is a summary of some of the recent coverage:
Yahoo Finance, Pluang and GlobeNewswire published stories about UW, the National Science Foundation Advance Sensing and Computation
for Environmental Decision Making (ASCEND) Engine, and NVIDIA hosting the Mountain
West AI and HPC Summit Aug. 31-Sept. 2 at the UW Conference Center in Laramie.
The Laramie Boomerang published UW’s release on UW’s Manufacturing Works supporting a federally funded
implementation award for the Intermountain-West Nuclear Energy Corridor Tech Hub.
The award is from the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Economic Development Administration.
The Boomerang also published UW’s release about UW’s Windy Ridge Foundation Astro Camp. The camp,
which took place July 12-18, was attended by 28 middle-school students, who planned
their own mission to Mars.
UW’s Ruckelshaus Institute was mentioned in a Jackson Hole News & Guide story about Teton County considering forming a regional group to tackle issues related to Wyoming’s and Idaho’s ties to the Teton Range. The Ruckelshaus Institute and the University
of Idaho’s McClure Center for Public Policy Research facilitated a recent meeting
on the subject.
The Fence Post, the Powell Tribune, the Sheridan Press and the Pine Bluffs Post were among the outlets publishing UW’s release about the Wyoming Sheep and Wool Festival
last week. The event, organized by the Wyoming Wool Growers Association in partnership
with UW Extension and the Wyoming Wool Initiative, celebrated all aspects of the Wyoming
sheep industry.
The Fence Post also published an article about mental health resources for Wyoming’s ag producers
that was written by Micah Most, UW Extension educator for Johnson County. The Buffalo Bulletin also published Most’s article.
American Ag Network and Farm Progress posted stories about the Foundation for Food and Agriculture Research and its research
partners, including UW, having awarded a $3.1 million grant to The Nature Conservancy
and its collaborators. The grant will help maintain productive grazing lands across
the Great Plains.
The News Letter Journal in Newcastle published a story about UW’s partnership in a U.S. Department of Energy-funded
project to improve forecasting of large clusters of potentially dangerous storms.
The News Letter Journal and The Riverton Ranger published UW’s release on the 13 moose that surveyors spotted during Summer Moose
Day weekend that took place in Pole Mountain and the Snowy Range July 18-19.
Kye Dean Catlin, a University of Wyoming graduate student studying prairie fishes
and how to improve their habitat, commented about the orangethroat darter in a WyoFile story about lesser-known fish species found in Wyoming’s prairie streams.
Sheridan Media published UW’s release about Wyoming’s We the People: The Citizen and the Constitution,
a civic education program at UW, that will receive $90,000 per year for five years
for a total of $450,000 from the W.R. Coe Endowment.
The Guardian and Phys.Org joined the list of news outlets that has publicized new UW research showing that
water vapor is staying longer in the atmosphere, traveling greater distances before
returning to the Earth’s surface through precipitation.
The Lovell Chronicle published a story about Lovell High School student Alex Walker and his experience this summer attending the High School Institute, which was hosted at UW.
The University of Wyoming has earned its Research Level 1 (R1) status from the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education, placing Wyoming's only four-year university with the top research universities in the United States.
