The Wald Funding Opportunity is dedicated to faculty and staff professional development. A successful proposal would describe a professional development opportunity and the ways in which the opportunity would benefit the applicant and the FWW School of Nursing. Lillian Wald was an advocate and leader in public health nursing. She graduated from the New York Training Hospital for Nurses in 1891. Her work in New York City led to the development of the first public nursing system in the world and she is considered the founder of public health nursing.
The Sharron S. Humenick Nursing Enrichment Fund was established to provide academic enrichment for Fay W. Whitney School of Nursing faculty. Dr. Humenick was a school of nursing faculty member from 1981 to 1998. She established the fund in 1999 after leaving UW. During her tenure at UW, she received the Presidential Award, a prestigious award recognizing senior faculty. She held research funding from the National Institutes of Health to evaluate "Insufficient milk supply: Nursing diagnosis and treatment." She was passionate about research, women's health, and breastfeeding.
