President's Update

UW Alumni Association NURSING CHAPTER

OCTOBER 2019

The UWAANC has been and will be very busy this semester--and enjoying every minute of it!

At the UW Nursing & Health Professions Career Fair on October 16
.[in the Wyoming Student Union Ballroom from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.], we will have a "Resume Blitz"--where we review resumes to help our students land a great job. Our resume reviewers will be positioned at the UWAANC table. If you are interested in being a resume reviewer for the future, please let us know. We are always looking for more reviewers. This year Jeanie Niemoller is again looking at resumes and guiding Johnna French, who is willing to learn from the "master"! Thank you to both of these nursing alumni.

The Nursing "Meet and Greet"
.is coming up this Friday during Homecoming (October 18) - from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in a new location from the past two years. This year we have moved downtown to The Altitude - 320 S. 2nd St. - back room. We'll have a blast and look forward to having you with us!

The "Memorable Mentor Award"
.will be presented at the Meet & Greet. Please join us to honor the 2019 Memorable Mentor, enjoy good food and even better conversation!

Our "Speed Mentoring" affair
.will be Wednesday, October 23, from noon to 2 p.m. at the Health Sciences Center in the 4th Floor Surge Area. We are always interested in getting new mentors. Please let us know if you are interested in participating. It is a fun event! The students love talking to the different mentors and learning about the many areas of nursing.

We are planning our first-ever Mock Interviews
.in November at the Marian H. Rochelle Gateway Center. We are hoping to give our senior students some valuable experience in interviewing skills as they enter the world of nursing.

In the spring, we will continue our capstone mentoring program.
.This program provides support for our senior students when they are off-campus doing their capstone practicum. The mentors can do support via personal meetings, texts, emails, FaceTime, or whatever form of communication works best for the student and mentor. We want mentors in every city in Wyoming and also northern Colorado and western Nebraska. If you are interested, please contact us--uwnursingalumni@uwyo.edu.

A huge thanks to the University of Wyoming Alumni Association!
The UWAA has been very supportive and willing to help us financially with the "Meet and Greet" and the mock interviews. We are thankful for their generous support of our events.
