The University of Kansas Health System has a paid 8-to-10-week nursing externship program this summer beginning early June! We’ll pair you with clinically proficient nurses who will help you deepen your clinical skills and confidence in providing patient care.

Apply if you have:

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association (must not expire during externship)
  • Completion of a clinical experience in an accredited nursing program

About the program:

  • Externs will work full-time (i.e., 36 hours per week), matching the schedule of their assigned preceptor.
  • This could include nights, weekends and holidays.
  • Externs can provide input to identify and work in selected interest areas.
  • High-performing externs will have an opportunity to interview for open nursing positions with The University of Kansas Health System upon completion of the externship.
  • Out-of-state students are encouraged to apply!

What about salary, benefits and housing?

  • Externship salary is $19 per hour.
  • Benefits are not included with this position.
  • An opportunity for housing at a subsidized rate will be available for candidates from outside the Kansas City area, with most housing costs paid for by us.

  • Interviews will begin in January, with offers made in February and March.
