January 10, 2014 — Travis Brown, Ph.D., assistant professor of pharmaceutical science,
is one of seventeen recipients of the highly competitive American Association of Colleges
of Pharmacy (AACP) New Investigator Award for 2014. Brown will receive start-up funding
from AACP for his research program, "The Role of Cathepsin K in Mediating Hippocampal
Synaptic Plasticity and Memory."
In addition to the research grant, he will receive $1,000 from AACP for required travel
to present his research findings at the AACP Annual Meeting to be held July 11–5,
2015 at the Gaylord National Hotel and Convention Center in National Harbor, Maryland.
Brown joined the University of Wyoming School of Pharmacy faculty in 2012. The main
focus of his laboratory is determining how exposure to drugs of abuse, traumatic events
and painful stimuli ultimately impacts neuroplasticity. Brown has authored or coauthored
multiple peer reviewed articles and has received numerous grants to fund his research
goals. He was previously with Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island.
