April 11, 2014 — The University of Wyoming School of Pharmacy (SOP) was well-represented at the 2014 College of Health Sciences Grand Rounds April 11, 2014. The 20th Annual Research Day showcased the exciting research and work of faculty, researchers, and students.

First-year Pharm.D. students in Dr. Baskaran "Baski" Thyagarajan's Biopharmaceutics and Pharmacokinetics course presented six posters on drug interactions. For a complete list of presenters, please see the Grand Rounds Program and List of Poster Presentations. See photos of the day's events.

Otis L. Hoy Memorial Seminar

A highlight of the event was the Otis L. Hoy Memorial Seminar, which featured a presentation by keynote speaker David Pollock, Ph.D., from the University of Colorado School of Medicine, titled, “The Genesis of Our Genomes: Repetitive Elements and the Origin of Function.”

Hoy Memorial Seminar during the 2014 CHS Grand Rounds. Dr. David Pollock, from the University of Colorado School of Medicine, gave the featured presentation titled, “The Genesis of Our Genomes: Repetitive Elements and the Origin of Function,” during the Otis L. Hoy Memorial Seminar.

Faculty Grant-in-Aid Awards

Travis Brown receives a CHS Faculty Grant-in-Aide Award from Dean Joe Steiner during the 2014 CHS Grand Rounds/Research Day.

Travis Brown; $7,000, “Sensory Cues Predictive of Food Availability Undergo Time-Dependent Prominence, Which Facilitates Overeating Behaviors.”

Student Travel Fund Awards

Greg Miller receives a CHS Student Travel Fund Award from Dean Joseph Steiner during the 2014 CHS Grand Rounds/Research Day.

Greg Miller; $750 to travel to the AACP Annual Meeting to present a poster titled, “Implementing a Student-Led Supplemental Instruction (Si) Program for School of Pharmacy Basic Science Courses.”  Greg has also been chosen as a 2014 Walmart Scholar with Dr. Suzanne Clark.

Paige Dingess; $750 to travel to the Annual Society of Neurosciences Conference to present a poster titled, “Exposure to a High-Fat Diet Attenuates the Locomotor-Stimulating Effects of Cocaine.”

Nathan Fuller is awarded third place in the competitive oral student presentation category by Dean Joseph Steiner during the 2014 CHS Grand Rounds/Research Day.

Nathan Fuller presented his research project titled, “Evaluation of Duration and Indication of Anti-Psuedomonal Antimicrobial Therapy in a Community Hospital.”
