July 15, 2014 — The Wyoming Pharmacy Association has presented alumna Ardis Meier,
R.Ph., (B.S.P. ’77) with the 2014 Bowl of Hygeia Award in recognition of her service
to the community and to the profession of pharmacy. This prestigious award is sponsored
by the American Pharmacists Association Foundation and the National Alliance of State
Pharmacy Associations.
Meier was the University of Wyoming School of Pharmacy 2010 Outstanding Alumna, named
a notable alumna by UW's Alumni Association, and the Niobrara County High School 2012
Alumna of the Year. She served as a pharmacy adviser at the Pharmacy College at Hampton
University in Virginia and she completed the Air Force Physicians in Management course,
as well as the prestigious Kellogg Executive Management Course at Northwestern University
in Chicago. She also held faculty preceptor appointments at the College of Pharmacies
at the University of Illinois, Virginia Commonwealth University, and the University
of the Pacific. Previously with the USAF/C 1st Medical Group Langley AFB, Meier is
also the former associate chief for Biomedical Sciences Corps for Pharmacy and Andrews
AFB in Maryland.
She has been honored with such awards as the Legion of Merit, the Meritorious Service
Medal with three Oak Leaf Clusters, the Air Force Commendation Medal with one Oak
Leaf Cluster, the Air Force Achievement Medal, and the Air Force Recognition Ribbon
with one Oak Leaf Cluster.
Meier is a member of the American Pharmacists Association, the American Society of
Health-System Pharmacists, the American Society of Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition,
the Association of Military Surgeons of the United States, the United States Pharmacopoeia,
and the Society of Air Force Pharmacy.
Meier retired from her last full-time position in 2004 as the chief pharmacy consultant
to the United States Air Force Surgeon General, following 26 years of service. Even
though retired, she continues to provide outstanding community service and fills in
as a pharmacist in Lusk and Torrington.
