July 15, 2014 — Jaime Hornecker (Pharm.D. ’03), from Casper, Wyoming, has been named
the 2014 Pharmacist of the Year by the Wyoming Pharmacy Association (WPhA). Hornecker
is not only making a difference as a leader in pharmacy, she is on the ground level
of educating future pharmacists, contributing to the care of patients, and educating
other health care professionals. Hornecker is an active member of WPhA and the Wyoming
Society of Health-System Pharmacy and has been president and continues to serve as
a director for both associations. In addition to being a leader in pharmacy organizations,
she presents at regional and national educational meetings for pharmacists and technicians.
One of her colleagues comments, “Jaime Hornecker is one of the smartest, brightest,
and hardest working women I know in the profession. She participates fully in every
opportunity and task that she is given. All of her co-workers respect her opinion
and knowledge and often seek her out for information. She is a role model for students
and fellow pharmacists alike, which is why she is so deserving of our highest honor,
the Wyoming Pharmacy Association Pharmacist of the Year.”
Hornecker is a clinical associate professor of pharmacy practice at the University
of Wyoming School of Pharmacy. Her practice site is at the UW Family Medicine Residency
in Casper, Wyoming. Previously, Hornecker worked as a staff pharmacist, clinical pharmacist,
and a pharmacy consultant. She has had a number of publications including “Improving
outcomes in Pregnant Patients with Diabetes” and “Advancements in HPV Treatment and
Prevention.” In 2003, Hornecker received the Facts and Comparisons Award of Excellence
in Clinical Communication Award. In 2007, she was the recipient of the Pharmacist
Mutual Distinguished Young Pharmacist of the Year.
Hornecker is also involved in many actives in her community of Casper. She is actively
involved in 4-H and livestock judging and many of her weekends and evenings are spent
working with children to encourage their interest in agriculture. As an alumnus of
Casper College, she is also involved with many of the activities sponsored by the
college’s agriculture department.
