In alignment with UW’s 2023+ Strategic Plan, the purpose of the Presidential Fellows program is to elevate and facilitate faculty-led projects that advance the university. 

The celebration and promotion of teaching, research, extension, engagement, innovation, inclusion, and service contributions to UW’s mission is a key execution strategy of UW’s 2023+ Strategic Plan and the Presidential Fellows program contributes to this important work. 

Current Presidential Fellows


Matt Burgess

Matt Burgess is an Assistant Professor of Economics. He is developing a series of rapid-response dialogs among students, faculty, and staff on contentious issues affecting the campus, and he is developing a podcast called Grounded, Not Divided that highlights the work of leaders across sectors making a difference on important issues on the ground.

Lars Kotthoff

Kotthoff is an associate professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science and an adjunct faculty member in the School of Computing. His fellowship focuses on facilitating better use of AI at UW in teaching, research, and entrepreneurship. He will develop resources and guidelines for members of the UW community and beyond to use AI, and demonstrator projects to showcase interesting and useful applications of AI at UW.

Jason Shogren

Shogren is the Stroock Chair of Environmental Conservation and Management and professor in the Department of Economics and he serves on the Wyoming Art Council, working with the Neltje Center Executive Director Beth Venn to explore the nature of the creative economy.

Gabel Taggart

Gabel Taggart is an associate professor of public administration and nonprofit management in the School of Politics, Public Affairs, and International Studies, he is working with Senior Vice Provost Tami Benham-Deal and Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs David Bagley to establish a Faculty Leadership Institute at UW.
