February 10 REDD Townhall
Published February 18, 2026
The Research and Economic Development Division (REDD) announced at their February 10th, 2026 Townhall meeting their organizational changes and restructure of their operations in response to budget uncertainties and funding challenges. Over the last year REDD created efficiencies through elimination of empty positions, flattening the reporting structure, and consolidating units. The restructure also allowed the division to adjust flows of funding so that most units were not relying on one source of funding, making each unit more stable in the event of funding reductions in the future. The reorganization was done in reaction to uncertainties of funding in early 2025 and in being proactive of possible future funding cuts. They focused on how to address the needs of campus while still dealing with funding uncertainties. They are here to support campus to increase the research expenditures at the university. In 2019 the expenditures were about 93 million and now have more than doubled that over the last four years. In 2025 we had 193 million in research expenditures. Out of this reorganization two units will have new names: E-RIDE and COMPASS.E-RIDE stands for: EPSCoR & Research Impacts, Development, and Engagement. COMPASS stands for: Compliance, Proposals, Agreement, and Strategic Services.
