Why are TRIO programs important? See this quote from the Council for Opportunity in Education, a national TRIO advocacy group. 

"Giving a helping hand to low-income students is both the right thing to do and in our national self-interest. Too many promising, even brilliant students grow up in low-income surroundings with little family wealth to help smooth their paths. Helping them is a significant investment; the United States needs students of every background who are academically prepared and motivated to achieve success to remain competitive with other nations. But many challenges remain. And like it or not, family wealth makes all the difference. Lack of money is one reason why low-income students are being left behind. Once enrolled, low-income students earn bachelor’s degrees at a rate that is less than half of their high-income peers — 21% compared with 45%. America’s highest and lowest-income students may have similar talents and potential, but there is a wide gap between the groups in college attendance. Few low-income students achieve a college degree, no matter how talented they are. That is why TRIO is so essential. TRIO programs step in the gap for many individuals..."

  • Katelan Rogers

    Speech, Language and Hearing Sciences - Minor: Honors

    Next steps...

    • Katelan will be attending the University of Nebraska at Lincoln to pursue a master's degree in speech pathology. 
    • "My favorite thing about the University of Wyoming is how close everyone is. You really get to make deep connections with the faculty and it is clear how much they care. I have also enjoyed the easy access to downhill skiing and the beautiful runs on the Greenbelt Trail."

  • Katherine Breit

    • Katherine is looking forward to securing a nursing position in Northern Colorado, post-graduation. 
    • "I have always loved how welcoming the people are [at the University of Wyoming] and how beautiful the campus is!"

    • Lydia's immediate plan is the spend some time in Hawaii with her sister to assist with childcare. She is also hoping to start her own music studio, where she will teach string instruments, while working on various graphic design projects.

    • Nicole is attending graduate school remotely through Capella University, and will be working in Laramie simultaneously. 
    • "[My favorite thing about UW] is all the wonderful people I have met. I have made so many connections because of the university."

    • Rachael will be attending the University of Wyoming beginning in June 2023 to pursue a master's degree in Social Work. 
    • "[My favorite memory from the University of Wyoming is] being a member of a cohort of 20 students for two years in the social work program, and attending UW at the same time as our daughter."
