Phil Black is an Assistant Research Professional in the 3D Visualization Center at the School of Energy Resources (SER) where he specializes in 3D Asset and VR Development. Black earned dual Associates Degrees from Casper College in Engineering and General Studies before completing a Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering from the University of Wyoming in 2019.
Joining the SER team in 2020, Black has utilized his previous experience in Art Direction, Illustration, Computer Engineering and 3D modeling to bring projects to life in the Viz Center. Since joining, Black has obtained extensive experience in Blender, Unity and Unreal, using both real-time and offline rendered pipelines.
In 2023 – 2024 Black obtained multiple certifications in Machine Learning (ML) and Artificial Intelligence (AI), applying his Digital Signal Processing and Digital Image Processing background in Computer Engineering to projects at SER. He also holds certifications in Unity and Unreal.
A Wyoming native, Phil loves the outdoors, making music, and spending time with his family and dog-child, Yoda.
