    The School of Energy Resources (SER) at the University of Wyoming (UW) was created in 2006 to enhance the university’s energy-related education, research and outreach. SER directs and integrates cutting-edge energy research and academic programs at UW and bridges academics and industry through targeted outreach programs. UW is a national leader in critical mineral and rare earth element related research, investigating the entire supply chain from both conventional and unconventional resources. Areas of interest include exploration, extraction, processing technologies, as well as workforce development.

    RER’s Bear Lodge Project in Weston and Crook counties, Wyoming excels with its proprietary state-of-the-art separation technology, developed with General Atomics, and a world-class rare earth deposit, producing high-purity Nd/Pr oxide for magnets crucial to defense, energy, and tech. The $53M+ Demonstration Plant in Upton – backed by the DOE and the Wyoming Energy Authority – is set to deliver ~10 tonnes of commercial-grade Nd/Pr oxide in 2025. RER is committed to driving U.S. rare earth independence, jobs, and efficient production for local communities.
