Financial Aid Appeals

Sometimes there are events in life that can affect a student’s financial aid.  There are five different types of appeals that students can submit for reevaluation of their financial aid eligibility, depending upon their individual circumstances. The cards below will redirect to each type of appeal page where you can review the specifics, the requirements, and the required documentation.

 

To the extent possible, the university will protect the confidentiality of students filing an appeal and will share information only as permitted by university policy and applicable laws, including with other university employees who have a legitimate need to know or as required by the Department of Education. For purposes of public records requests and to the extent allowed by law, the university will treat all materials submitted as part of the student’s education record under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), which is protected from disclosure. Materials are also protected according to the HEA Sec. 483(a)(3)(E).

Special Circumstance Appeals

Students may experience life changes or special circumstances not fully reflected on the FAFSA. This appeal allows you to request a review of your financial aid eligibility based on your individual situation.

Unusual Circumstances Appeals

There are some circumstances that may qualify a student for independent status on the FAFSA which could have an impact on your financial aid eligibility.

Cost of Attendance (COA) Appeals

If a student's actual expenses exceed those estimated in Cost of Attendance (COA), you may qualify for a COA adjustment with proper documentation.

Scholarship Appeals

New first-time students may appeal either their initial eligibility or to have your weighted high school GPA considered.

Continuing students may appeal if you did not meet renewal criteria because of extenuating circumstances and you can provide documentation of those circumstances.

Loss of Federal Aid Appeals

Federal aid eligibility students to be making satisfactory academic progress (SAP) towards a degree or certificate. When not meeting those standards, you may qualify to continue receiving aid with a successful SAP appeal and academic plan with the necessary documentation.
