Post-Doctoral Research Associates

The School of Computing at the University of Wyoming is currently hiring multiple post-doctoral research associates to join research groups led by new faculty Dr. Ellen Aikens, Dr. Sean Field, Dr. Meridith Joyce, Dr. Ben Koger, and Dr. Dane Taylor. The School of Computing is a new academic unit focusing on the application of computing in and across all disciplines. Research associates will join an academic community that is fundamentally interdisciplinary and uses translational research to leverage new and critical computing technologies to address grand-challenge problems in science and society.  We are seeking five post-doctoral researchers whose research experience and interests intersect computing and one of the fields of ecology, anthropology/archaeology, astrophysics, or applied mathematics.

Please follow the specific links below to the relevant job description which includes more information about the opportunity, specific qualifications for the position, application information and contact information:

  1. Post-doctoral Researcher in Computing and Ecology: This researcher will join Dr. Ellen Aikens’ research group. The Aikens Lab conducts research on animal movement and migration ecology. Data science and spatial analysis is a core focus of the lab, which strives to transform large, complex environmental data into meaningful information that advances ecological understanding and informs conservation and management efforts. Read more about Ellen Aikens' work.

  2. Post-doctoral Researcher in Computing and Anthropology/Archeology: This research will join Dr. Sean Field’s research group. The Field Lab specializes in computational archaeology and anthropology, including the study of human-climate dynamics in ancient and contemporary periods and the deployment of remote sensing for archaeological prospection. Read more about Sean Field's work.

  3. Post-doctoral Researcher in Computing and Astrophysics: This researcher will join Dr. Meridith Joyce’s research group. The Joyce Lab specializes in the application of high-performance computing, statistics, and data science techniques to problems in stellar astrophysics, especially stellar structure and evolution, stellar variability, and/or Galactic archaeology. The postdoc will have the flexibility to choose from projects spanning a wide range of topics in theoretical stellar modeling, fundamental parameter determinations (e.g., ages) of stars, and/or the characterization of stellar populations and the Milky Way. Read more about Meridith Joyce's work.

  4. Post-doctoral Researcher in Computing and Ecology: This researcher will join Dr. Ben Koger’s research group. The Koger Lab specializes in designing and using novel imaging and image processing techniques to study natural systems. We use a combination of drone, satellite, and ground-based imagery paired with deep learning detection and tracking algorithms to investigate how animals’ behaviors are influenced by their social and physical environments.

  5. Post-doctoral Researcher in Computing and Applied Mathematics: This researcher will join Dr. Dane Taylor’s research group. The Taylor Lab specializes in the development of data-science algorithms and models for network-related applications, including the study of social, biological and technological networks. The group specializes in leveraging mathematical frameworks that include multilayer networks, hypergraphs, and simplicial complexes. Read more about Dane Taylor's work.

These positions will remain open until filled. Complete applications received by 2/8/2024 will receive full consideration. The University of Wyoming is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer and is committed to equality in hiring.
