Gubbels Resigns from UW Board of Trustees

October 27, 2017

Citing health concerns, University of Wyoming Trustee Larry Gubbels, of Douglas, has resigned from the UW Board of Trustees.

“I deeply regret having to make this decision,” Gubbels wrote in his letter of resignation. “I find that, in my heart and head, I am still able to serve, but my physical body is not able to sustain all-day meetings. I will continue my support and care deeply for the University of Wyoming.”

Gubbels, a retired auto dealership owner, was appointed to the board by Gov. Matt Mead in 2013. Gubbels’ term was to have run through Feb. 28, 2019.

"I was sorry to receive Larry's resignation,” the governor says. “He has deep roots in Converse County and brought a businessman's perspective to his work on the Board of Trustees. He served with a strong sense of commitment to UW and the state of Wyoming. I thank him for his service."

Members of the Board of Trustees are appointed by the governor, with the advice and consent of the Wyoming Senate.

“We deeply appreciate Larry’s service on the board and will miss his presence and contributions,” Board of Trustees President John MacPherson says. “We wish him the very best and know he will continue to be a strong supporter of the university.”
