UW Alumni Association Scholarship Reception April 17 in Sheridan

The University of Wyoming Alumni Association (UWAA) 28th annual Scholarship Reception and Auction is 5:30 p.m. Friday, April 17, at the Historic Sheridan Inn.

The theme for the evening is “A Night for the Students,” as alumni and other supporters come together to celebrate the UWAA scholarship program.

The UWAA provides scholarships to Wyoming students, out-of-state students, and undergraduate and graduate students. Within these scholarships, awards have been added to support Wyoming community college transfer students, nontraditional students, U.S. veterans, multicultural and Native American students. Recipients are selected based on criteria including academic excellence, leadership and extracurricular activities.

Since its inception in 1906, the UWAA scholarship program has grown steadily through its coordination of the Scholarship Club, named scholarships and the UW license plate program. Per academic year, about $232,000 is disbursed to nearly 130 students, with awards ranging from one to four years.

While proceeds from the scholarship reception and auction contribute to the funding of the scholarship program, it also is funded from private donations and the sale of UW license plates.

“Spring means spring football and the annual UWAA auction and reception. Last year’s gathering generated a record amount and a lot of enthusiasm for the attendees. The UWAA scholarships are only possible with our support, and those scholarships are changing the future of students across our state and the country,” says UWAA Board President Mark Mader (B.S. ’71). “The World Needs More Cowboys, and one way you can help is by joining us at the annual auction and reception. Please save the date and join us in the fun.”

The title sponsor of this event is Wyo4News. The cost to attend is $40 per UWAA member and $60 per nonmember. Price includes hors d’oeuvres and two complimentary beverages per person, including beer, wine or nonalcoholic drinks. There will be a silent and live auction along with a drawing for a “Talk About Your Cowboy” bronze sculpture by D. Michael Thomas valued at $3,500. Attire for the evening is casual.

UW alumni and friends interested in attending or sponsoring the event can register online at http://uw.uwyo.edu/uwaa28. The deadline to register is Tuesday, April 7.

If you are not able to attend the event and are interested in participating in the “Talk About Your Cowboy” raffle, you may purchase tickets at http://uw.uwyo.edu/raffle20.

To submit an item for the auction, call the UWAA at (307) 766-4166 for a donation form.
