The University of Wyoming Harry C. Vaughan Planetarium will offer eight public shows during February, which include “Wyoming Skies” every Tuesday evening and family matinee full-dome films that will screen every Saturday afternoon.

“With the return of students to campus this January, we're going to give our staff some time to undergo surveillance testing for COVID prior to opening to public shows,” says Max Gilbraith, the planetarium’s coordinator. “February will have a variety of shows for all age groups and interests to enjoy during their visit. Additionally, we're hoping to make some special announcements with regard to Valentine's Day Feb. 14 show(s). So, check back soon. If you'd like to visit sooner in January, remember the planetarium and observatory are available for private bookings seven days a week.”

Seating is limited, so tickets will be by reservation only. To get tickets or receive more information about programs, email planetarium@uwyo.edu or leave a voicemail and a callback phone number at (307) 766-6506. Tickets are $5 for the public and $3 for students and those under 18. The planetarium, which seats 58, is located in the basement of the Physical Sciences Building.

The February schedule is as follows:

-- “Wyoming Skies,” Tuesdays, Feb. 2, 9, 16 and 23, 7 p.m. This program provides an exploration of the stars, constellations, planets and other celestial phenomena visible from Laramie for the season.

-- “Dawn of the Space Age,” Feb. 6, 2 p.m.

-- “From Earth to the Universe,” Feb. 13, 2 p.m.

-- “Hearts in the Sky,” Feb. 14, 7 p.m. Love is in the air tonight! Our night sky is rich in mythology relating the human condition to the stars. This Valentine's Day program will explore love. Hear the epic star myths of romance and betrayal, and the science about those far-away objects those myths describe. Note: If this program sells out, additional offerings will be provided the same evening.

-- “Two Small Pieces of Glass,” Feb. 20, 2 p.m.

-- “The Sun: Our Living Star,” Feb. 27, 2 p.m.

All programs are about an hour in length. As time allows, a portion of the show also may focus on a live sky tour or supporting information related to the film's topic.

If you have a group larger than six, it is recommended to contact the planetarium for a private show, Gilbraith says. The rate for private shows is the same as ticket prices for public shows.
