UW College of Business Aligns On

The University of Wyoming’s College of Business provides a Bachelor of Science degree in economics and a Bachelor of Science in business with the following majors: accounting, business economics, entrepreneurship, finance, management, marketing and professional sales.

Previously, the College of Business also provided an online bachelor's degree offering in business administration. After UW Board of Trustees approval Feb. 17, the College of Business will move forward with the replacement of that business administration program with an online degree offering in management.

This change coincides with the college’s desires to align on-campus and online programs to ensure consistency and quality of the degrees offered, regardless of modality. After the successful rollout of an online accounting degree with support from the Board of Trustees in January 2020, this expansion of online programs into management is another step for the College of Business to provide all of its on-campus programs in an online modality to support place-bound learners around the state.

“By aligning our on-campus and online programs, we feel that we can better serve the needs of the state and our students,” says Ronn Smith, associate dean of the College of Business. “This exciting next step hopefully will be followed by future efforts to grow our online offerings to correspond with our on-campus programs.”

While this change comes at at time when UW is going through a budget reduction, the College of Business has used this time to become more efficient and effective. In alignment with the college’s accreditation with the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business, continuous improvement is always at the forefront for the college’s leadership.

“Budget reductions can always be challenging but, through action-based programmatic review and the continual support of the university’s leadership team, we believe we will come out of this process better for it,” Dean David Sprott says.

Students currently enrolled in the online business administration program will have the ability to seamlessly complete their degrees, with assurance that the quality and rigor of the courses are upheld. Students with interest in learning more about or applying to one of the college’s online programs in either accounting or management should email the College of Business Green Johnson Student Success Center at success@uwyo.edu or call (307) 766-8249.
