UW’s EORI Co-Sponsors Midland CO2 Conference

The University of Wyoming’s Enhanced Oil Recovery Institute (EORI) is one of the sponsors of a Dec. 6-9 conference in Midland, Texas, that will focus on carbon capture best practices and field-tested innovations.

The Midland CO2 Conference is being organized by EORI Technical Advisory Board member Steve Melzer, and one of the guest speakers is Wyoming Energy Authority Executive Director Glen Murrell.

As one of the Centers of Excellence in UW’s School of Energy Resources, EORI facilitates meaningful and measurable increases in recoverable reserves, and production of oil and natural gas in Wyoming that may otherwise not be realized.

Among the conference’s planned activities and topics:

Monday, Dec. 6 -- Field trip to the West Seminole CO2 flood project near Midland.

Tuesday, Dec. 7 -- CO2 enhanced oil recovery carbon management workshop, “New Policies and Incentives.”

Wednesday, Dec. 8 -- Carbon capture and storage projects that are underway or planned.

Thursday, Dec. 9 -- CO2 enhanced oil recovery worldwide and Permian Basin case histories.

Along with EORI, the conference is co-sponsored by the Society of Petroleum Engineers’ Permian Basin Section.
