UW Outdoor Gear Swap Nov. 12 at Corbett Building

The annual University of Wyoming Outdoor Gear Swap has a new sponsor: the nationally recognized UW Nordic ski team.

The gear swap will take place Saturday, Nov. 12, with an 11 a.m. early-bird admission of $10 for all attendees. The rest of the swap will be noon-2 p.m. at the UW John Corbett Building gym with free admission. The event is open to the public.

The Outdoor Gear Swap is a community event to recycle outdoor equipment and get gear into the hands of people who want it, says Christi Boggs, co-head coach of the UW Nordic ski team.

“We are excited because it fits with our environmental focus for fundraising,” Boggs says. “People can bring gear that they no longer use and, maybe instead of buying all new gear, they can just ‘reuse’ by finding what they need. It is great for the seller, buyer and the environment.”

For people purchasing items, card, cash or checks (with valid ID) are the only form of payment. The UW Nordic ski program will keep a 25 percent commission on all sold items, and donations will be accepted, Boggs says.

“We also are excited to be partnering with SNOW, Madshus and Laramie Basecamp to make this an even better event,” she adds.

Boggs says individuals interested in selling equipment should pre-register items to be sold by going to the gear swap page at www.uwyonordic.com/gear-swap.html. Sellers must come prepared to tag, price and fill out receipts for all of the items they submit during check-in times only.

Gear check-in is Friday, Nov. 11, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. or Saturday between 8-10 a.m. in the Corbett Building gym. The sellers must pick up unsold gear Saturday after the swap between 2:30-4 p.m. Any unsold items not retrieved after 4 p.m. will be donated, Boggs says.

All of the information about the event, including items that will not be accepted during the gear swap, can be found at www.uwyonordic.com/gear-swap.html.

The 25 percent commission will be used to cover overhead, such as credit card fees and other essentials, with profits helping to fund the Nordic ski program, Boggs says. The goal is to qualify as many UW skiers as possible for the Collegiate National Championships in Mammoth, Calif., next March.
