Civic Chorus, Community Band to Perform Nov. 7 at UW

The Laramie Civic Chorus and the Community Band will perform at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 7, in the University of Wyoming’s Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts concert hall.

UW Department of Music faculty members Susan Cogdill Vollbrecht, a visiting assistant professor, and Robert Belser, a professor and director of bands at UW, will conduct the Laramie Civic Chorus and Community Band, respectively. The student and community groups offer diverse repertoire and ensemble memberships.

Tickets are $12 for the public, $9 for senior citizens and $8 for students. To purchase tickets, visit the Performing Arts box office, call (307) 766-6666 or go online at UW faculty and staff members, and military personnel can purchase tickets at a discounted rate. The Community Band will perform with guest conductors Kirsten Caskey and Parker Allen on select pieces. The program will feature “Manhattan Beach March” by John Philip Sousa and conducted by Caskey; “Variations on a Shaker Melody” from “Appalachian Spring” by Aaron Copland; “Nocturne” by Alexander Scriabin; “Marche Diabolique” by Brian Balmages and conducted by Allen; “An Irish Rhapsody” by Clare Grundman; and “The Roosters Lay Eggs in Kansas” by Mayhew Lake.

The Civic Chorus, along with guest pianist Andrés Felipe Usuga, will perform the traditional hymn “Hark, I Hear the Harps Eternal” by Alice Parker; “If Ye Love Me” by Thomas Tallis; “Salmo 150” by Ernani Aguiar; “Make Our Garden Grow” from “Candide” by Leonard Bernstein; and “A Gaelic Blessing” by John Rutter.
