Firearms Research Center at UW Receives Major Gift

The Firearms Research Center (FRC), housed in the University of Wyoming College of Law, has announced a major gift of $82,500 from Marty Daniel, the founder, owner and board chairman of Georgia-based firearms manufacturer Daniel Defense.

“We are grateful for Marty Daniel’s support of our efforts to bring more voices to the firearms discussion, create a pipeline for law school graduates prepared to serve as firearms attorneys, enhance our online presence and act as a reliable, nonpartisan resource for firearms-related information and research,” says George Mocsary, FRC’s director and co-founder. “This donation will allow us to build out our website so our work, and the work of diverse others, will be available and accessible to the public.”

FRC was officially launched in January of this year. This is the center’s first major donation.

“The national dialogue on firearms and the Second Amendment is often one-sided and misinformed,” Daniel says. “Academics, lawmakers, regulators, media and members of the legal community will all benefit from a center that produces groundbreaking scholarship and research based on facts -- not feelings or a political agenda.

“This Firearms Research Center is already doing incredible work, and I am proud to do my part to support them.”

About Marty Daniel

Marty Daniel graduated from Pinewood Christian Academy in Bellville, Ga., in 1980. In 1985, he received his Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering technology from Georgia Southern University. Since its founding, Daniel Defense has evolved into one of the most recognizable brands in the firearms industry and continues to be a leader in the industry.

Daniel currently serves on the Georgia Southern University Foundation Board of Directors and the Georgia Southern University Corporate Advisory Board to the Allen E. Paulson College of Engineering and Information Technology. He is an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Pooler, Ga. He and his wife, Cindy, have a daughter, Harlee, and a son, Connor.

About the Firearms Research Center

Housed in the University of Wyoming College of Law, FRC was founded in 2023 by legal scholar George A. Mocsary and firearms historian Ashley Hlebinsky to establish more voices in the firearms discussion; create a pipeline of graduates prepared to serve as firearms lawyers; and act as a reliable, nonpartisan resource for firearms-related information. By bringing together scholars from a wide range of academic disciplines and experts without traditional academic backgrounds, FRC’s aim is to foster a broad discourse and produce meaningful change in how firearms are discussed and understood. FRC will serve as a resource for academics, practitioners, lawmakers, members of the media and the public on the uses and roles of firearms in society -- both past and present.
