Letter from the Dean Spring 2026
Published May 06, 2026
April always feels like a blur to me with looming deadlines as the end of the semester approaches. I am sure that many of you working on proposals, theses, and dissertations or studying for exams feel the same way. At the same time, we have so much to celebrate! First, congratulations to those of you who will be graduating in May or August! Earning agraduate degree is a tremendous achievement. We are all proud of you!

Even if you are not graduating yet, you have made it through an academic year of graduate school. Whether that involved passing challenging classes, completing clinical practica, or advancing your research, you have no doubt grown tremendously from where you were in August. Congratulations to you all!
I hope you get to spend some time enjoying the beautiful Laramie summer. Do you want to go camping, kayaking, or fly fishing but don’t have the equipment? Remember that you can rent it from the UW Campus Recreation Outdoor Program. Or just put on some sturdy shoes and go for a hike.
I also want to thank you all for your patience and assistance as I stepped into my role as Interim VP and Dean of the School of Graduate Education. Just like graduate school, there are rewarding days and challenging days, but I am honored and humbled to be accepting this role as a permanent position.
Carolyn
