Library Corner

Hi Everyone,
My name is Kendra, and I am the Graduate Research and Engagement Librarian at UW Libraries. When grad librarians get together, we often lament the perception that campus libraries only serve undergrad students. This is far from the truth. Some of my favorite work involves supporting grad student research as the Humanities and SSPAIS liaison. And I am not alone in this. The UW libraries liaison program has over 10 librarians with expertise in fields from English, to Chemistry, to Nursing, to Dance and Theatre. I speak for all of us when I say we are excited to learn about and support all the important graduate student research happening on campus.

The liaison program connects the majority of academic departments at UW with a dedicated librarian who specializes in that subject area. This means someone who knows the key databases, journals, and research tools in the field, and who can help researchers throughout the different stages of the research life cycle.
While I thoroughly enjoy getting a bunch of grad students together in the same place (keep your eyes open for more grad writing events), we know that you all are very busy. Through the liaison program you can arrange one-on-one appointments with flexible scheduling and options to meet in person, over Zoom, or even via email back-and-forth. We can help with a literature review, finding sources, storing and publishing data, using a citation tracker, and so much more.
In addition to one-on-one meetings, liaison librarians can assist with classes you might be teaching. We are always down to discuss research assignments, help you find resources, build class specific learning objects, and teach information literacy sessions in your classes.
You can find your department liaison by visiting the Research Librarians page on the UW Libraries website. Please reach out so we can share all the incredible wisdom and resources housed in our liaison department!
In addition, The University of Wyoming Libraries are inviting students to take a short survey about the Libraries website. Your feedback will help us understand how students find and use services such as research help, study spaces, databases, and other online resources. Please visit theLibrary Resources Survey to provide feedback!
