Library Corner Summer 2026

UW Libraries has been busy this summer completely redesigning our Research Guides. This might not sound like an exciting development, but we promise it is. In addition to being available for consults and class visits, the liaison librarians have harnessed our expertise to create easy to access, curated guides for different subjects, special topics, tools, and resources. We also have guides dedicated specifically to graduate student research needs, including the Graduate Student Guide to the Library, and the Graduate Theses and Dissertations Guide. 

 

If you are feeling overwhelmed or unsure of where to start your research, there is probably “a guide for that.” Our subject guides identify the top databases and tools for a particular subject, offer subject specific search advice, and identify other resources geared towards researchers in the field. New this summer, our subject guides all have accessible PDF handouts that can be downloaded and used with a screen reader. In fact, the accessibility of our guides has greatly improved with our summer spruce up. 

 

In addition to subject guides, we have guides on how to find materials in the library, learn a language, manage your citations with Zotero, and more. We also have many tutorials on things like data cleaning, coding languages, and citation styles. You can access both the guides and the tutorials from the UW Libraries website, under Research Guides. The guides have all been curated and regularly updated by our librarians and library assistants, to help ensure students and faculty can find what they need. Guides can also be a great resource to share with your students – we are keen to make sure the guides are useful and relevant, so feel free to reach out if there is a guide you would like to see expanded or created.
