Workshop Recap
Throughout the Fall 2025 semester, the School of Graduate Education hosted a variety of events and workshops designed to support graduate students in achieving their professional goals and enhancing their overall well-being. These sessions provided opportunities for students to connect, learn new skills, and access valuable campus resources dedicated to their academic and personal success.
We extend our sincere gratitude to our partners at REDD, UW Libraries, and the Writing Center for their collaboration and continued support. Their contributions play an essential role in helping us create meaningful programs that empower graduate students to thrive both inside and outside the classroom.
Be sure to stay connected and keep an eye out for upcoming events and workshops from the School of Graduate Education in future semesters. Check out our events calendar!
Show Me the Money: Funding Your Grad Journey
On October 29, representatives from UW colleges and programs joined the “Show Me the Money: Funding Your Grad Journey” professional development panel to showcase the many internal funding opportunities available right here at UW.
This one-hour session helped demystify the funding process, offering practical guidance on where to find support, how to apply, who to contact, and what pitfalls to avoid. The expert panel featured students and representatives who’ve successfully earned grants and fellowships through programs such as INBRE, the NASA Space Grant, SI, and various college and school-level awards.
Whether students were new to graduate research or well into their projects, this session provided valuable insights into turning great ideas into funded opportunities—without the scavenger hunt. Weren't able to make it? Tune in below.
The Grad Lab: Research and Write-In Session
On October 30, graduate students gathered in Coe Library, Room 506, for The Grad Lab: Research and Write-In Session—a focused, two-hour event designed to help students make meaningful progress on their research and writing projects.
Open to all graduate students, from those drafting essays to those finalizing dissertations, The Grad Lab offered a supportive, distraction-free environment to write, plan, and stay motivated. Participants brought their laptops, notes, and goals—while The Writing Center and Kendra Cowley, graduate research and egagement librarian, provided encouragement, accountability, and plenty of pizza.
Events like The Grad Lab Write-In and Research session give graduate students a chance to connect, refocus, and build momentum in a collaborative setting. Check the SGE events calendar in the Spring to attend future sessions.
