Byra Kite

Byra Kite, originally from Bakersfield, California, began his legacy in Wyoming when he came to UW as a student and played offensive tackle for the UW football team from 1966 to 1968. He was a member of the 1968 Sugar Bowl team. Kite was an All-Western Athletic Conference selection as offensive tackle during his senior season in 1968 and a member of the Hall of Fame, the Sugar Bowl, and the Sun Bowl team.

Byra began his political career in Wyoming in 1976 when he managed Malcolm Wallop’s first run for U.S. Senate. After Wallop’s victory, Kite began his 20-year career in Wyoming politics helping Wyoming Republicans run their campaigns and win elections. In 1977, Kite began working as Senator Wallop’s State Director. In this position, he helped hundreds of Wyoming citizens in their dealings with the federal government. After Wallop’s retirement in 1995, Kite worked as a Senate staffer. Kite’s dedication and commitment to Wyoming and its citizens is outstanding and his tireless work for the Cowboy State cannot be overstated. Go Pokes!
