Application Process

The admissions process is a collaborative effort between the University of Wyoming and the University of Washington School of Medicine guided by a committee of Wyoming physicians who are deeply invested in our state’s future healthcare workforce. We recognize that the application journey can be both exciting and challenging, and our team is here to provide guidance, encouragement, and support. We want you to feel confident and empowered as you navigate each step, from residency certification to interviews and beyond. Our goal is to foster a welcoming environment where every applicant is valued, and every question is answered.

Application Steps

1. Apply for Wyoming residency certification through the University of Wyoming Certifying Office. This is required before you can be considered for the Wyoming WWAMI program. The residency certification application opens on June 1st and is due by October 15th for the following year’s entering class.

Additional Information

Selection Process

  • After review, selected applicants are invited for interviews, which are conducted remotely in January or February.
  • Interviews are typically 30–40 minutes with a three-person committee, including Wyoming physicians and educators. The chairperson sits on the Executive Committee (EXCOM), which makes final acceptance decisions.
  • Up to 20 Wyoming students are accepted each year, with an alternate list created from other qualified candidates.

Additional Admissions Details

  • Acceptance to the Wyoming WWAMI medical education program requires signing a contract with the State of Wyoming. The state pays a portion (approximately 75% of the total tuition costs) of every students’ tuition with the expectation that graduates of the Wyoming WWAMI program return to practice after completing their residency for a total of three years of full-time clinical practice.  The contract also stipulates that graduates must reimburse the State of Wyoming for educational costs, plus interest, if service obligations are fulfilled.
  • Applicants accepted to the Wyoming WWAMI program will be provided a copy of the State of Wyoming WWAMI contract for review prior to needing to accept admission to the program.
