Sam was born and raised in Cheyenne, Wyoming. She graduated from the University of Minnesota in 2022 with a Bachelor of Science in neuroscience and a minor in leadership. During her undergraduate years, Sam worked as an EMT in the Twin Cities, where her passion for medicine grew as she excelled in patient interaction and loved learning in the fast-paced environment of the emergency room. After graduation, Sam returned closer to home and worked as a research coordinator with the amazing cystic fibrosis team at National Jewish Health in Denver, Colorado. In this role, she gained invaluable experience working with rare diseases in an outpatient care setting, a stark contrast to the emergency department. She collaborated with patients and clinicians on a variety of studies, from surveys to first-in-human genetic therapy trials. Through this work, Sam saw firsthand the importance of building trusting relationships with patients and their support systems, which deepened her commitment to pursuing a career as a physician. This experience not only solidified her career path but also provided the mentorship and support needed to continue on that journey. In her free time she enjoys theatre, traveling, playing sports, walking her cats and exploring outdoors.
