Graduate Certificate in Remote Sensing

Graduate Certificate in Remote Sensing

Imagery and other data collected by satellites, manned aircraft, and Unmanned Aerial Systems (drones) is increasingly important for studying natural systems and human activities across scales, from global change to urban planning to agricultural management. Our online 15-credit graduate certificate in remote sensing gives you an opportunity to gain a rigorous foundation in remote sensing and digital image processing and to use elective courses to explore specific topics in remote sensing relevant to your studies or career, all at your own pace. Students who later decide to pursue a professional master’s degree at WyGISC can apply these courses to their degree program.

Courses you will take:

The online 15-credit graduate certificate in remote sensing includes 2 core courses covering the fundamentals of remote sensing and digital image processing and the interface between remote sensing and geospatial science. Students also choose 9 elective credits from the University of Wyoming GIS&T Catalog page or courses from other departments (with approval) that include applications of or remote sensing to different disciplines, UAS remote sensing, engineering, or other related topics.

Remote sensing scientists analyze images and other data to solve problems across disciplines. Applications like Google Earth and satellite-based maps are familiar to all of us, but they only hint at the utility of remotely sensed data. Expertise in remote sensing can be applied to fields ranging from anthropology to zoology, and trained remote sensing scientists work in academia, private industry, and local, state, and federal agencies.
