Current Projects

WyGISC's current research holds not only new projects, but projects that we maintain under stewardship. Our new projects, for which the data and applications are still being gathered and created, are considered "in progress" and will be labeled such below. Projects that have completed data and applications but remain under our maintenance and upkeep are considered "ongoing".

Wyoming Student Atlas

The Wyoming Student Atlas is now available and will be distributed for free, by the Wyoming Geographic Alliance, to K-12 schools and libraries around the state of Wyoming. The purpose of the student atlas is to provide K-12 students and teachers with resources that will aid in learning more about Wyoming geography while at the same time increasing students' spatial awareness and critical thinking skills. The Wyoming Student Atlas is the first of three primary products envisioned as part of the recently launched Atlas of Wyoming Project, the others being a comprehensive large-format hardcover atlas book and an accompanying digital, Web-based map viewer.

State Wildlife Action Plan (SWAP)

ONGOING | The State Wildlife Action Plan (SWAP) aims to maintain the health and diversity of wildlife within the state. The data of where species are located, which species are endangered or threatened, and which habitats are the most endangered augment the plan by providing this information and a comprehensive way to display it.

suitwater application

SuiteWater: Natural Resources Planning and Analysis Tool

This project aimed at developing a web-based interface to integrate GIS, spatial data, textual information, photography, archived documents, user-generated content, and other information for incorporation into the resource planning process and the associated development of planning documents.

wilderness society

Wilderness Society - Wyoming Public Lands Initiative (WPLI)

The purpose of the WPLI Resource Mapping application is to provide a comprehensive dataset for use by Wyoming county advisory teams in evaluating and proposing public land use recommendations as part of the Wyoming Public Lands Initiative (WPLI).

Wyoming Migration Initiative

The Wyoming Migration Initiative partnered with the Wyoming Geographic Information Science Center (WyGISC) to develop a secure database for Wyoming’s GPS movement studies. The database and viewer are now a standard archive for ungulate movement data in Wyoming and a durable resource for the state and region.

wpli

WCCA - Wyoming Public Lands Initiative Information Hub

The overall objective in developing the WPLI story map platform is to utilize an easy-to-access Web mapping framework to present qualitative and quantitative information supporting public engagement and education on Wilderness Study Areas (WSAs) currently under review across nine Wyoming counties.
