Tom earned his Ph.D. from the Department of Sociology and Criminal Justice at the University of Delaware.  His research primarily investigates the relationship between family dynamics and delinquency, the role and importance of family within the reentry process, and the impact of school security, policing, and disciplinary strategies on youth and family outcomes.  Tom’s research has appeared in a number of outlets including Justice Quarterly, Youth & Society, British Journal of Criminology, Deviant Behavior, and British Journal of Sociology of Education
