Lab facilities

Within the department, a variety of equipment is available for faculty and graduate student use, including an open graduate student lab, a student lab, and teaching lab, running Microsoft Windows and Red Hat Linux Operating Systems. In addition, the computer classroom with removable hard drives that enable multiple operating systems to be run, giving students exposure to many platforms. The department also maintains a cluster of dual processor Linux servers.

Students are also encouraged to work with faculty members on research projects, these projects typically use equipment dedicated to research activities.

Professional Societies


Association for Computing Machinery (ACM)

  • ACM, the world’s largest educational and scientific computing society, delivers resources that advance computing as a science and a profession. ACM provides the computing field's premier Digital Library and serves its members and the computing profession with leading-edge publications, conferences, and career resources.

Upsilon Pi Epsilon (UPE)

  • Upsilon Pi Epsilon is an honorary society which promotes and recognizes outstanding talent, professionalism, and scholastic achievement in the field of computing science.  UPE is a member of the Association of College Honor Societies, an agency which certifies college honor societies and holds these societies to a standard of excellence.  UPE was the first, and as of now, the only international honor society for the Computing and Information Disciplines.

National Center for Women & Information Technology (NCWIT)

  • The University of Wyoming Computer Science Department is a proud member of the National Center for Women & Information Technology Academic Alliance. The NCWIT Academic Alliance brings together nearly 600 distinguished representatives from academic computing programs at almost 250 colleges and universities across the country, spanning research universities, community colleges, women's colleges, and minority-serving institutions. Charged with implementing institutional change in higher education, the Academic Alliance provides feedback on NCWIT programs, contributes and adopts effective practices, and serves as a national agent of change.
