College student groups produce Dec. 2

"Tribute to Teachers" variety show

A night of song, historic school fashion and celebration of the University of Wyoming College of Education’s centennial marks “A Tribute to Teachers,” scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 2, in the UW Education Auditorium.

The event “celebrates the University of Wyoming’s College of Education’s 100th anniversary with an old-fashioned, yet completely new variety show honoring teachers and the work they do, the clothes they wear, and who they are,” according to program coordinator Terry Burant, assistant lecturer in the UW Department of Educational Studies.

Featured during the hour-long event is a slide show highlighting historic teacher fashion, narrated by former Superintendent of Public Instruction Judy Catchpole and College of Education Advisory Board President Larry Stewart.

Highlights also include a tribute to teachers in song, performed by the University Lab School Choir and a “tribute to the ABC sweater, apple sweater and denim jumper in dance,” performed by dancers ranging in age from seven to 72.

The event will close with the cutting of a 100th birthday cake, accompanied by retired faculty member Tim Rush playing “Happy Birthday” on the harmonica.

Event sponsors are Kappa Delta Pi honorary, the Education Ambassadors, Student Wyoming Education Association and the College of Education Dean’s Office.
