There are many aspects of robotics research happening in the Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering at the College of Engineering and Applied Science.
Dr. McInroy and Dr. Novak are bringing together expertise in computer vision, robotics, networks, virtual reality, visualization, and health science to develop rehabilitation robots for helping patients restore functional ability, strength, mobility, quality of life and independent living.
Dr. O’Brien is interested in the development and experimental testing of novel parallel kinematic machines. His research involves developing advanced actuation and control approaches that will be applied using UW’s newly acquired Baxter robot.
Students who have studied with these faculty members have gone on to work at Ball Aerospace, GE, and have even founded their own independent engineering company. With many major industries i.e. healthcare, factory automation, farming, and education exploring the use of robotics, opportunities in this field are limited only by the imagination.
