As part of a major new initiative to develop and grow the University of Wyoming into a world-class institution of higher education, inquiries, nominations and applications for the position of Dean of the College of Engineering &; Applied Sciences (CEAS) are invited.
UW's CEAS is uniquely positioned among all colleges of engineering in the U.S. today. It enjoys unprecedented long-term infrastructural and programmatic financial support from Wyoming's Governor and legislature, and from some of the world's largest and most technologically advanced energy companies. Adding to the college's uniqueness are existing and pending partnerships with leading academic and research institutions, close relations with Wyoming's booming energy industries, and forward-looking senior leadership within UW and the CEAS.
Given its unique strategic position and solid base of excellent academic and research programs, the Dean will be positioned to make CEAS into one of the nation's premier engineering colleges in every respect: recruiting and graduating outstanding students, infusing curricular innovation, generating deep industry connections, and developing a research enterprise aimed at fueling Wyoming's economy and supporting K-12 STEM education to fill the pipeline of excellent students to the University.
The aspirational nature of UW's CEAS initiative demands a Dean with a pioneer's attitude, an entrepreneurial spirit, confidence to think and act boldly, and experience in inspiring others to work as a team to set and achieve ambitious, visionary goals. The ideal candidate will be able to leverage and deploy the existing high-level of state, industry and institutional support for CEAS with enthusiasm, outstanding communications skills, a team-building leadership style and academic, business and political acumen. The ideal candidate will also need to be confident interacting regularly with the Governor and legislators in a highly visible position in a largely rural state that is intensely proud of its only University.
Minimum requirements for this position include a doctoral degree (or equivalent) in a discipline related to the field of engineering and applied sciences. Successful candidates must qualify for tenure and an appointment at the rank of professor within one of the academic departments in the CEAS. The ideal candidate would have at least 10 years of organizational leadership experience, preferably in an academic setting.
