The University of Wyoming's joint degree program combining a Juris Doctor with a Master's of Arts in Business Administration results in students earning two degrees in four years.
The on-campus Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.) Program features an innovative curriculum provided by a well-rounded and distinguished group of faculty members, along with on-site experiential learning in business environments. This combination was designed to provide our students with the skills necessary for career exploration and job placement. The joint degree program is for those looking to launch their career or round out their education with business experience. The J.D./M.B.A. concentrates on honing decision-making techniques on real business problems, developing managerial skills for successful leadership and improving interpersonal skills.
The University of Wyoming J.D./M.B.A. degree program will take approximately four years to complete. Students spend their first, third, and fourth years on-campus engaged in law studies.
In their second year, students will be enrolled full-time in the M.B.A. Program, taking core Fall and Spring business courses followed by participation in an M.B.A. Summer Project. The M.B.A. Capstone course will be completed during the student’s third year for a total of 38 M.B.A. program credits.
Nine (9) credit hours of approved Law coursework will be transferred as elective hours to the M.B.A. Program for a total of 47 credit hours. Additionally, nine (9) credits of approved M.B.A. coursework will be applied to the Juris Doctor degree. Students successfully completing this lock-step program will earn dual Juris Doctor and Masters of Business Administration degrees.
Students apply separately for admission to the College of Law and the College of Business. Students interested in pursuing a joint degree program, may not apply to the College of Business until they have been admitted to the College of Law. Once admitted to the J.D. program/College of Law, students interested in pursuing a joint degree program should schedule a meeting with an Admissions professional within the College of Law. It is recommended for law students to be admitted to the M.B.A. portion of the joint degree
within the first semester of their first year.
GMAT or GRE Exception: The GMAT or GRE is not required for J.D./M.B.A. applicants demonstrating strong quantitative ability and preparedness for the mathematical rigors of the M.B.A. program through their LSAT, prior coursework, professional experience, and/or certifications. If an applicant is uncertain their background demonstrates the level of quantitative ability required to be successful in the M.B.A. program, they may take the GMAT or GRE by the application deadline.
