Welcome to UW Mathematics
By combining a passion for teaching with a deep commitment to research, the faculty, in the Mathematics Department, are dedicated to excellence in its undergraduate and graduate programs. The department strives to nurture and prepare its students for successful careers in the mathematical sciences, whether in academic, governmental, or industrial positions.
LEARN MORE, GET INVOLVED!
The UW Math Department fosters collaborations with scientists, engineers, and computer specialists and professional organizations within the University of Wyoming and the community to provide understanding, insight and opportunities for growth.
Please plan to attend any our sponsored events and join one of the many professional organizations supported by the mathematics department.
Some of organizations and events we support include:
Transition and Articulation
Each year the conference is hosted by one of the seven Wyoming Community Colleges or the University of Wyoming. The purpose of this conference is to gain knowledge, between the organizations involved, of the practices and techniques employed in the classroom; to discuss the transitions from high school to college/university and to build strong and lasting collaborative relationships for teachers and instructors for all K-16 and beyond. The conference allows valuable feedback and insight into the success of their students as it relates to continuing education. What techniques are working and what successes or deficiencies are discovered. These discussions establish expectation for improvement, diagnosis of problem areas and helps to ensure the foundational teaching is in place.
- THe Fisk Distinguished Speaker Series
Departmental Seminar Series
These weekly seminars feature each of the three concentrations in mathematics. The speaker and topics change weekly.
Please check the department bulletin boards for dates/times.
Algebra / Combinatorics / Number Theory
Applied / Computational Mathematics
An organization developed to encourage and support innovative mathematics programs and provide a statewide forum for exchange of ideas, develop and/or improve the mathematics education of students in two-year colleges.
A two week institute for Wyoming high school mathematics teachers. Each institute session introduces the teacher to a current mathematical topic for their enrichment and possible introduction into their own classroom.
Institute for Scientific Computing
Institute for Subsurface Flow
Rocky Mountain Mathematical Consortium (RMMC)
