Earn Your MA in Spanish at the University of Wyoming

 Applicants to our MA program in Spanish should include the following items in their application packets:

  • A letter of application indicating the reasons for their interest in their purpose and the course of study they are interested in pursuing.  An indication of future career goals is also useful.  The letter should be written in the applicants’ non-dominant language: if the applicant is a Spanish native speaker, the letter should be written in English; if the applicant is an English native speaker, the letter should be written in Spanish.
  • Official copies of undergraduate, post-baccalaureate, or graduate transcripts demonstrating previous coursework in Spanish, an undergraduate degree in Spanish or related field is required.
  • Three letters of recommendations from those who know well their preparation for their intended graduate course of study.
  • An Oral Proficiency Interview is necessary if English is not your first language: http://www.uwyo.edu/modlang/esl/english-oral-proficiency-interview.html 
  • TOEFL iBT scores if applicant is international student showing a minimum score of 111/120
  • Proficiency in oral Spanish, as conducted by phone interview: Non-native English speaking applicants should achieve an ACTFL proficiency rating of Advanced Low in Spanish and English. A faculty member will interview prospective applicants online to determine that they possess sufficient proficiency in the language and in English to be successful in their course of study.
  • Currently, no GRE score has been set for applicants.  If you have taken this examination, please include your score in your application, and we shall take them into consideration.

Deadline to apply to the program is March 1 for admittance to the Fall semester.

The program is four full-time semesters (two years). You take a total of 36 credit hours (12 courses – three courses per semester).

The Graduate Assistantship Application can be found at http://www.uwyo.edu/registrar/university_catalog/grad_students.html and should accompany the letter of application to our department.
