University of Wyoming faculty and students work with "preceptors" - nurses who mentor our students in a variety of clinical settings. The Fay W. Whitney School of Nursing, in an effort to recognize preceptors--especially those who go above and beyond--presents an award annually to a preceptor in those UW School of Nursing programs with clinical components. Students nominate preceptors for these awards.
The preceptor chosen from the Basic BSN program is Scott Christensen, who was working as a nurse in Cheyenne VA Medical Center ICU at the time he precepted our student. The student who nominated our winner said the following:
Scott has been an absolutely phenomenal preceptor! He has challenged me to be the best nurse that I can be while focusing on patient driven care. Scott has been a mentor and a role model. He has inspired me to give my best to every patient each and every day. He is always willing to step up and help anyone who needs assistance and motivates other staff members as well. He has supported me through the tough times in the ICU and in those moments of uncertainty. He has been an ICU nurse for 21 years and is always willing to offer insight and advice in any situation that arises. He is an amazing nurse and I am so lucky that I have had the opportunity to learn from him!
