Background Check

STOP!!!!! 

Before you complete the Background Check, read below to see when you should complete the background check!  Students completing it prior to Fay W. Whitney School of Nursing (FWWSON) notification will be requested to repeat the process, which will present complications and additional expense. The background check is an admission requirement of the FWWSON, NOT the University of Wyoming.

1. When do I complete the background check?

   • Once you receive notification from the FWWSON that you are being offered formal admission into the nursing program, you will be directed by the nursing staff to complete the background check.

2. What are the charges?

   • There is a charge - approx. $20 - to complete the background check. You must have a credit card to complete online. International students may incur different/higher costs.

3. How and when do I get my Background Check Results?

   • IMPORTANT REQUIRED STEP!!
     When you go into Viewpoint Screening to fill out your application, there is a place where you are asked if you want a copy sent to you. IT IS VITAL that you check this and provide an address for the background results to be mailed to you. You will not be able to access the system later to request that option, so make sure you do it up front at the time you are completing the application. 

   • Why do you need these results?
     - You will need the results for your own information and records.
     - If asked, you may need to provide a copy of your results to clinical agencies. No University, College, or School staff members are allowed to print that off for you or to send it to agencies.

4. How do I complete the Viewpoint Screening Background Check?

   To initiate the background check:

   • Click the link at the last bullet below, which will direct you to the College of Health Sciences website

   • Scroll down to the bottom of the left hand menu column on that page.

   • At the bottom of the Background Check section, click on the "Enter screening process" link to access the Viewpoint Screening background check form

   • Click HERE: www.uwyo.edu/hs if you were directed to complete the background check as noted in Item # 1 above.
