From May 18-22, 2015, interested students and others will meet at the nearby Table in the Wilderness camp, in Centennial, WY, for a weekend of Stoicism. Group studies along with early morning and evening hikes, lots of good food, and some down time, everyone will return to society with a better sense of "stoic calm."
Participating in the North American Stoic Camp, hosted by the University of Wyoming Philosophy Department includes engaging in a rigorous study of the Meditations of Marcus Aurelius and others, in both small groups and large discussions, augmented by guest speakers. In addition to the more serious study, the participants will engage in outdoor activities, including but not limited to, hiking, bonfires, and waking up to watch the sunrise on the final morning, as a direct response to one of the Roman Emperor's recommended meditations. Hosting Stoic Camp in Centennial, Wyoming, allows for a perfect opportunity to immerse oneself in nature. All meals are included. The Goal of the Stoic Camp is to experiment with living in a thoroughly philosophical way, using the stoics as our model, and to explore what it means to live intentionally.
