The Facilities Services Department of the University Physical Plant is comprised of Equipment Services, Grounds Services, Moving Services, Stage Technical Services, Waste Services, and Custodial Services. These areas work together to provide a clean, inviting campus environment for students, employees, and visitors.
Equipment Services is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the heavy construction equipment assigned to the Physical Plant. They are responsible for the removal of snow from the campus streets, sidewalks, and parking lots. They are responsible for any excavation or backfill work as well as operating the cranes and personnel lifts.
Grounds Maintenance is responsible for maintaining the campus grounds in an aesthetically pleasing and safe manner. This involves the planting of over 50,000 flowers in 250 plus flower beds, caring for the lawns, trees, shrubs, etc. they also assist Equipment Services with the removal of snow. This department is made up of four full-time employees augmented by approximately 25 students during the summer months.
Moving Services is responsible for the moving of objects as requested on campus. This can vary from moving entire departments across campus to individual items. They are also responsible for the removal of snow from designated stairways, ramps, etc.
Stage Technicians maintain, operate and provide technical support for the A&S Auditorium and the Fine Arts Concert Hall. Stage Technicians also assist in the operation of the Education Auditorium.
Waste Services performs campus recycling operations as well as the operation of the Sanitation Garbage Truck on campus. The recycling department primarily collects and sorts paper products and plastic bottles. If a department has a quantity of another material please contact the department to see if they can dispose of the item. The Custodial Services Department is a major support unit in the Physical Plant and is the largest department on campus with around 100 full time/part time employees and around 25 student employees. The Custodial Services Department is run by a manager, an assistant manager, two office aides, a pest specialist and six zone supervisors.
They are responsible for the overall cleanliness of University academic facilities. They provide basic and advanced cleaning services, assist with snow removal, change light bulbs and respond to emergencies as needed. They lock and unlock buildings and provide special services for University events. They also provide pest management for university academic facilities and maintain special equipment in a repair shop. Building lockup is performed evenings and
weekends.
Through consistent communication and mutual respect, they strive to provide a clean, safe, sanitary and secure environment for the University community and general public. Working Hours are 5:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., staffed in three shifts.
