Step Inside the UW Conference Center
Find out what the UW Conference Center has to offer—from weddings to business conferences.
Laramie has many things a typical small town doesn’t—an art museum, world-class performing arts, a thriving dining and nightlife scene, Division 1 college sports … and a premier conference center. The University of Wyoming Conference Center, located at the Hilton Garden Inn, with easy access to the new Gateway Center, the Arena-Auditorium and War Memorial Stadium, features 12 conference rooms and more than 13,000 square feet of elegant, flexible venue space complete with state-of-the-art audiovisual technology provided by PSAV—the only venue in the state to offer this technology.
From weddings to business or academic conferences, the UW Conference Center provides a venue where attendees can stay, meet and dine. “We have had many alumni, current student and UW employee weddings,” says Jennifer Adu, catering manager for the Hilton Garden Inn & UW Conference Center. “We’ve had people book specifically on a game day weekend so they or their guests could attend the game that same weekend.”
Rick Miller, vice president and general counsel for UW, explains that the center is also a way to enhance business in Laramie. “The idea is to book conferences in the community to not only fill up their hotel but fill up other hotels because people are coming to Laramie to participate in a variety of different meetings. It’s great for Laramie because it brings in business.”
The UW Conference Center’s location on the corner of 22nd and Grand and the fact it provides everything in one place are what set it apart from other venues, Miller says. “If you’re going to have a conference or convention, you need the meeting space, you need the food and you need the accommodations. Whether it’s a game day or an academic conference, it’s all right there. It’s a large conference center with a lot of flexibility.”
“The University of Wyoming offers a great location in the heart of town,” says Page Malmstrom, general manager of the Hilton Garden Inn & UW Conference Center. “The UW Conference Center offers quality food and service. We will be rolling out seasonal menu changes throughout 2014 to give our clients variety when they book meetings with us several times a year. The conference space we provide is flexible in configuration—if you want a large meeting or a small intimate meeting, break out space, pre-function space or a tradeshow, we can accommodate most group needs.”
In addition to everything the university offers—from sports to performances—Laramie is home to many activities for visitors using the conference center. “Laramie has so many attributes that set us apart from other locations starting with its rich history,” says Harmony Savoia, senior sales manager at the Hilton Garden Inn & UW Conference Center. “We have the Wyoming Territorial Prison State Historic Site, Laramie Plains Museum and the Ames Monument just outside of town. Laramie also has many outdoor adventures to enjoy, including snowmobiling, skiing, ATV, hiking and fishing. We have a great vibe in this town offering a warm welcome to all those that visit us.”
“We want to be a place in the community where people can call on us and we can be the experts in the business,” Malmstrom says of the conference center. “When it comes to planning an event, we would love to help give people feedback no matter if they book with us or not. If they have a question about something we know about, we are happy to help!”
In order to reach out to the community, the Hilton Garden Inn & UW Conference Center partnered with UW for two recent giveaways on the UW Facebook page (facebook.com/uwpride). The first featured a package to enjoy the UW versus Hawaii game Nov. 23 in style with a Junior King Suite for two nights and delicious Kona steak dinner. The second giveaway provides four certificates to the Hilton’s Thanksgiving buffet.
“This is a new promotion for us, and we are having fun offering some interesting and exciting giveaways and are enjoying reading the comments as to why someone should win,” Malmstrom says.
“Our focus is delivering what we promise,” she adds. “We want everyone to have a successful event, and we want to give the best quality of food and delivery of service. Our goal is to have our clients re-book with us and not think twice about going anywhere else.”
