The recently renovated and expanded Half Acre Recreation and Wellness Center is the main recreation facility on campus. The $31.4 million construction project began in spring 2013. The Wyoming State Legislature appropriated $15 million for the work, and $12 million in bond sale proceeds will be repaid by student fees. ASUW backed the fee increase and lobbied the Legislature to support the project.
Groathouse Construction of Laramie received the contract for the major renovation and expansion of the facility. The architect/engineering firm of Tobin and Associates of Cheyenne, in association with Ohlson Lavoie Collaborative of Denver, designed the improvements. Completed in 2015, this state-of-the-art facility serves the recreational and wellness needs of the UW campus community.
Campus Recreation utilizes Corbett Pool and Gym for additional recreational opportunities. Corbett pool is a 25 yard by 25 meter L-shaped pool with a diving well. Corbett Gym can accommodate 2 basketball/volleyball courts or four badminton courts.
Nearly 7 acres of recreational field space is available for a variety of outdoor opportunities. This area is used by Campus Recreation for many Intramural and Club Sport activities.
