Field Course

Student in oil and gas field

ERS 4960 Energy Field Studies course explores various facets of energy development by visits to oil and gas wells, coal mines, power plants, wind farms and other energy production and research sites.

Travel Dates: May 20-24, 2019

Course Information: Offered during Summer Session for 1 credit hour and graded Satisfactory/Unsatisfactory

Itinerary: Plans for Summer 2019 are to visit energy production sites throughout Wyoming including an oil rig, a coal mine, a dam producing hydropower and a wind farm. Interactions with state agencies are also being planned.


  • Sophomore or higher standing
  • Completed USP C2 Communications 2 course

Prerequisites Exception

Please complete the School of Energy Resources petition if you have not completed the following courses and are interested in taking ERS 4960.

  • ERS/ENR 1000 Energy and Society
  • ECON/ERS 1300 Oil: Business Culture Power
